Details on Our Software
 Dr. States's Computer Parent software has multiple utilities to serve the family. Many features cater to chores and responsibilities of the children. But many more features stress communication and efficiency within the entire household.
Financially, Computer Parent (CP) is a valuable tool to teach financial principles to children. CP utilizes a savings and checking account system, complete with the child's own personalized Computer Parent checkbook. Children always want "spending money" during the family trip to the mall, now they write their own check, to mom or dad, and receive the "spending money" from their own personal accounts. Parents simply enter the transaction on the computer after arriving home, debiting from the child's personal account. Better yet, spending habits are tracked and displayed graphically to teach the child about his or her spending habits, i.e. video games $10 a month! Furthermore, CP promotes goal-oriented savings; like $5 per week for a new bicycle, save $150 and you got that new bike! Again, graphical progress can be displayed for any and all savings goals for each child. Interest earned is also available to demonstrate how money can grow through good savings habits.
Computer Parent can be used as a disciplinarian, assisting the parents in this difficult area of child rearing. Just as our criminal justice system uses the monetary system to control behaviors in our society, CP uses the monetary system to discipline children, or reward them. As a supplement to the family's own system of discipline (time-out, corporal, loss of privilege, grounding, etc.), negative behaviors are punished with fines. Fines are recorded at the end of the day, as well as the reason for the fine. Parents can then review the negative behavior on a regular basis and use the opportunity to demonstrate the consequences of this type of behavior, all using computer graphics to make a powerful impression on the child. Also, trends can be identified to demonstrate improved behavior. Reward systems and probation systems can be utilized to encourage positive changes in the child's behavior. The system works great, children respond to prompt and decisive discipline that Computer Parent allows.
Computer Parent excels at promoting the children's personal development. By this I mean the positive activities and interests that serve to benefit the child in a physical, emotional, educational, or social attribute. These include good academic performance (homework completed, grades on tests or report cards), musical instrument practicing, physical exercising and athletics, extracurricular activities, and citizenship activities. Prompt Bedtime and wake-up times are important to having a positive day. CP assigns the children their bedtime and wake-up time and rewards or punishes based on their performance. No more sleeping until noon in the summer, CP gets you up by an assigned time or you pay the consequences.
Dr. States's Computer Parent can get the household work done in a fair and cooperative fashion. The children enjoy checking off their completed chores each day, a great sense of accomplishment. What a contrast for parents to be greeted upon arriving home from work by children proclaiming their accomplishments and receiving affirmation from their parent. Children are encouraged to cooperate with each other to get siblings chores completed (how? You ask. Simple, commissions are paid to the cooperating children based on their siblings' performance.) Children are taught to work more efficiently, chores can be assigned as morning or evening duties so the kids need to get up in the morning and get clicking along or CP will have some bad news for them that day.
Computer Parent has had a dramatic, positive impact on our home and our children. Our home runs more smoothly, each member sharing in the responsibilities. We feel less family stress when everyone helps and does their part without having to be told or reminded. We have seen improved performance of chores, behavior, fitness and academics.
